Dr. John Willer, D.O. specializes in cataracts and general ophthalmology. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio. In 1993, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Athens, Ohio. After completing his internship there, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the Grandview and Southview Hospitals in Dayton, Ohio. The American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology certified him in 1998.
Joining Cascade Eye Center in 1999, Dr. Willer has been an active participant in community activities. During college, Dr. Willer was a volunteer emergency medical responder and firefighter in Ohio. He drew from this interest when he served on the Board of Directors for Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue from 2013-2017.
Beyond working with patients with routine vision care needs, chronic disease treatment, and injury treatment, Dr. Willer also performs no-stich cataract surgery, YAG laser treatments, and iStent® insertions at the Columbia Gorge Surgery Center in The Dalles, Oregon. He also administers intraocular injections for age related macular degeneration and other conditions, and therapeutic Botox® for conditions such as chronic muscle spasm around the eye.
Being able to make a difference in somebody’s life by restoring their vision is so important to Dr. Willer that he often volunteers to help those in need. He has completed multiple medical mission trips to India, Guatemala, and Ecuador, where he provided no-cost cataract surgery and treatment to hundreds of patients.
